Barbara Mace
Barbara’s ceramics are inspired by themes from the natural world, archaeological time, place and earlier cultures. The large dishes particularly may have used material from a walk in a particular time and place so capture visually the memories of those moments in time. Past inspiration includes Chinese ceramics and prints, and many paintings and art works from many eras.
The methods used are throwing, hand forming and press moulding; firings may be earthenware stoneware or raku. Though many of the pieces are considered decorative the stoneware fired ones are also functional. Barbara has been very interested in developing the use of colour in stoneware.
