My ceramics echo my concerns for the environment whilst also marvelling at nature. I usually make functional pieces that have a sculptural form. My work reflects on the damage caused to nature in today’s world. I explore this by throwing and then drawing into the porcelain clay. A combined technique of Mishima and Sgraffito is used to define the lines and forms of flora by which I am inspired when walking on the Isle of Wight. The textures caused by markmaking into the clay fade ‘in and out’ which mimics nature’s ability to renew. The black void inside vessels and the ‘exploded’ edges carry on the theme of destruction of nature by pollution and the dark consequences of this.
