I began potting when I lived in Malawi and because we had no pottery suppliers, I followed the example of the Malawian women and made low fired work which was smoke fired. They provided great inspiration with their wonderful round shapes. I was also able to do some raku work.

I have continued with hand building and still love the look of pieces without glaze. I pit fire do Indian smoke firing and am now experimenting with getting different effects using naked raku. I have also started making different Terra Sigillatas using clays dug locally and seeing how they react when fired.
