SCG 50th Anniversary Book
As part of our 50th birthday celebrations we are producing a limited-edition book of current members’ work. To be eligible to enter, you must be a paid-up member of SCG and you must submit one piece of work which will be professionally photographed by Duncan Shepherd for inclusion in the book.
The book will be approximately A5 sized, full colour and will include at least 60 member’s work.
The fee is £20 which includes the professional photography fee (of your submitted piece) and one complimentary copy of the book.
There will be 2 forms to complete in order to participate.
Form 1
This is the application to be in the book and includes the payment.
Form to be completed on or before midnight Sunday 7 September 2025
Form 2
This will ask for information about you and your work.

Form 2 will ask for the following information :
Thumbnail portrait photo of you
We want to include a ‘thumbnail’ portrait of you on your page. It doesn’t need to be of professional quality because it will be small. Ideally this could be either a head and shoulder photo of you working in your studio space or just a head and shoulder image. The portrait must be in jpeg / jpg format. No other image format will be acceptable.
Name, title of piece submitted work, dimensions (height, width, depth), materials and firing.
Description of your work to accompany the photo
This should be written in the 3rd person and should be a description of your work/working practice and ideally reference the photographed piece. Include information about you as an artist; your inspiration; methods of working or anything else that you feel is relevant. 250 words max.
We may need to edit your text to try to keep a consistent style for the book so please note that we reserve the right to exercise editorial control.
Reference photo of your submission
This won’t be printed in the book and is purely so that we can identify your work and how you prefer it to be photographed. The reference photo should show your preferred side/view. This only needs to be of snap shot / phone quality!
Quotes which may be included throughout the book
We would like to include some additional quotes in the book so please let us know:- when did you join SCG, why did you decide to join and what have you gained from being a member. 100 words max. We will use a selection of quotes throughout the book.
Deadlines
- Complete Form 1 & pay by midnight Sunday 7 Sept 2025.
- Complete Form 2 and upload all other information by midnight Sunday 22 September 2025.
- Deliver work to Art Space Portsmouth 27 Brougham Rd, Southsea PO54PA between Monday 22 Sept and Fri 26 Sept between 10.00 and 5pm or Sun 28 Sept -Tue 30 Sept 10.00-5pm.
When delivering your work please ensure you have 2 labels with your membership number on your item. It must be securely wrapped and in a lidded box labelled with your name and membership number. All work needs to be insured by yourself and SCG will not take responsibility for damaged work.
We plan to try to put you in touch with other Book participants in your area so you can arrange mutual delivery and collection times to save on travel.
